Moscow State Circus

The world famous Moscow State Circus is coming to the UK city of Birmingham for Christmas. Guaranteed to delight the entire family, there is many a cheap Birmingham hotel is being eagerly booked up in anticipation.

Nationalised in 1957, the Russian circus first received international attention during the rule of the Soviet Union. Traditions such as juggling, clowning, contortion and acrobatics toured the USA invoking a sense of pride for their Soviet homeland. Animal acts (such as bears that could juggle with their feet) were one of the backbone performances for the company at the time.
The Moscow Circus School was established in 1929 which meant that the USSR became the world’s first country to open a state-run circus training facility. Students had to train for 20 hours every week learning a number of disciplines at the circus school but competitions for places were fierce and over 1000 people applied each year for only 70 places.

In contrast to Western counterparts, Moscow circuses tend to rely on a narrative storytelling theme throughout their shows. This is a tradition that continues to this day.
Inspired by the legend of ‘The 12 Chairs,’ the circus is putting on a brand new show at Birmingham’s Star City. Involving the hilarious clowns Valik and Valerik, the stunning queen of Russian Circus Yana Alievia, and a troupe of fearless acrobats, the show has something for everyone to enjoy.

There are plenty of hotels in Birmingham star city that will provide you with accommodation if you plan to make a weekend break out of your trip. The circus has always been regarded as the people’s entertainment, but after the show you could chill out and eat at one of the complex’s many different eating places. With a choice of Italian, American, Chinese, Indian, and even Portuguese restaurants on offer, you are bound to find somewhere to tickle your taste buds after a fantastic evening out.
