Something interesting in Venice

Accept it is built above the water, Venice is well known with its ladies of pleasure. Courtesans lived in a beautiful and hard epoch of persecution. They have been qualified as prostitutes on a high level, because, except satisfying men's desires they also have been well educated and intelligent. In spite of the strictness of Roman Catholic Church dignitaries, in Venice courtesans lived much more peaceful than in other cities in Europe. They have been invited to different events to make company to diplomats, politicians and other men from the high society.
Actually courtesans were divided into two main categories. The first one was known as “honest” courtesans. They were apart of the high society, being on the allowance of one or several rich men, such as their protectors. Their vantages were independence, freedom of travel, they were allowed to make conversations and sometimes they possessed high culture and literature talent.

The second category included courtesans of lower classes. In a way or another they couldn't become “honest” courtesans so they fell down in the underworld.
In presence there are descendants of the courtesans across the world, especially in Europe. But there is a main difference between the current ladies of pleasure and those lived in 16th century. Nowadays they have much more freedom to do whatever they want, non persecuted by the Church and they are known as duennas and if you are invited on a party or such event including persons of the high society, you can always use such services and there is no need to include intimate connection.
If you travel to Venice and looking for such services, as you being a guest in some of the Venice hotels, you can ask the main person on the information desk.
